Rep Steve Scalise, 4 Others Shot

The only way to stop a bad congressmen is with a better candidate in his district. Maybe one without an off-putting national platform holding him or her back. Something different.

Why don't we start here?

Well in a lot of districts it doesn't really matter who runs, because only an "R" or "D" next to their name matters.

Scalise had surgery in ICU today.

So what have Republicans been doing since an angry citizen shot one of their own? Riling up their base with inflammatory rhetoric against CNN.

The parents and wife of Andrew Kaczynski, author of the GIF story and leader of CNN’s investigative K-File team, had received around 50 harassing phone calls each by Wednesday while other K-File team members had ugly messages—apparently from Trump supporters—left at their homes. “The only thing I worry about is somebody getting hurt,” a CNN insider told The Daily Beast, speaking on condition of anonymity because this person is not authorized to discuss internal network operations. “These far-right trolls are really threatening people and coming after people. Somebody’s gonna do something stupid at some point.
“People really, really worry about the safety of all the prominent people who represent us on the air, and the people who are breaking news they don’t like, or people in senior management…I fear for all of them.”

It wasn't that long ago that a news reporter was shot on air. Why are Republicans so hell bent on harassing members of media?

False. Run better campaigns. You had control in 2008. You blew it.

Assuming that you are referencing Allison Parker's murder, you might remember that she killed by gay black man. I'm guessing like the shit who shot Scalise, he wasn't a Republican.

Gay black men aren't harassing CNN.

My point was simply that we were all horrified by an on air murder of a reporter. Why are these people hellbent on inciting violence against reporters when we have experienced how horrific it is?

Right. The present case involves a left-wing Bernie supporter who sought out and targeted Republicans for a mass killing. You are absolutely right that the assailant was not a gay black man. He was a left-wing crazy incited to violence.

In this thread, you said that the lesson from this episode is that Republican (yes, amazingly, you said Republicans) should be more responsible with their rhetoric.

ITT jh denies the existence of gerrymandering.

We can either acknowledge the historical, undeniable facts that Democrats not only had control of both Houses of Congress after the 2008 election but indeed have held control of the House and Senate for a majority of the past 100 years, or we can pretend that they didn't. Your call.

over-confidence is a son of a bitch. time has a way to make everyone look like fools. Dems did nothing to help themselves over the last 10 years and Reps have gerrymandered themselves into a good position...but what has that done for them over the last 167 days of Trump's presidency. has he really accomplished what he said he would do in his first 100 days? with all of the power, what have the Reps accomplished? 2018 is right around the corner. they better get their act together...if they are still dickering about a few extra dollars in their own pocket at the American's expense, i think we will see the winds of change coming.

and you know that is the truth.

Republicans are scared to show their faces during recess but they're expecting to run for re-election next year.

For one year the Dems had true control after 2008. During that year, they passed a stimulus bill that helped turn around the biggest recession since the Great Depression. They also passed ACA and other major bills. Once Ted Kennedy died, McConnell obstructed Congress in greater manner than has ever been done in US history. He blocked more bills than anyone ever had. This is indisputable fact.

When the GOP took over the House they refused to pass an infrastructure bill that passed the Senate 78-22.

The GOP hated the idea of a black POTUS succeeding more than they loved America. Their actions proved it.

The best about being a Republican is not having to look to Washington for legislative solutions to all of life's problems. If the economy continues to chug along and they can save Obamacare from itself, they'll be able to put forth a decently acceptable campaign for reelection. Dems, then as in the past, may very well disqualify themselves again with voters, and may drop the floor low enough that decently acceptable(TM) carries the day. Again.

If you had Mitch McConnell's face...would you show it?

Well at least you're momentarily back to #facts. I guess that's an improvement. But I don't know how it validates your response to doofus.

Do you really believe that there are NO districts where only the party affiliation of the candidate decides who wins?

Also nice to know that you've finally figured out the definition of majority.

I can even use it in a sentence. Democrats lose a majority of elections for House and Senate across the Country (and the State).

How did I do?

As long as you now know it means greater than 50%, we can say that the time spent posting 19,000 times hasn't been a complete and utter waste.
